Book Event

June 27, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

What do our own stories of transformation say about the people we are and continue to become?

Ilise Benshushan Cohen will be speaking about her chapter from the recently published book, Reclaiming Judaism from Zionism: Stories of personal Transformation

Ilise Benshushan Cohen will share her personal story about what led her to be an activist on what some people believe is one of the most divisive in our Jewish community. She will share how she has navigated the relationship with Israel, Palestine, Judaism and Jewish identity. Though usually an organizer and an educator, Ilise reflects on her journey in her chapter in a recently published book called Reclaiming Judaism from Zionism.

Even though she’s found incredible meaning in being a scholar-activist, she has also been targeted. Ilise still works at reclaiming Judaism amidst the struggles and challenges of Zionism and nationalism.

Some of you organize with her, some of you delete her emails, some have been on a CBH Israel/Palestine task force with her, some have seen her dragged off in a in a headlock in a local synagogue, some have had their children or themselves be tutored for b’nai mitzvah by her.

Ilise Benshushan Cohen is going to share her story of Reclaiming Judaism and is hoping for a meaningful discussion in our community.
